LIDAR

http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories/s798.htm

LIDAR maps use aerial views taken from planes that display a 3D image of a specific land area.  The map provided is from NOAA that shows buildings in New York in 2001.  This map is used to give construction workers a good idea of which type of cranes to use for the various buildings.  By using the 3D component in this map gives this map the credibility of being able to be considered a LIDAR map.
